Attic Ladder

Folding Attic Ladder

When it comes to space saving yet accessibility to your attic a folding attic ladder is the way to go. No matter where you live or how big your house is you can always use more storage space. If you don’t believe me just take a look around at all the storage garages that are being rented. When it comes to space in the house a stairway or permanent ladder takes up at lot of your living space. If you buy and install a folding ladder for your attic your living space is greatly increased.

Some nice features of a folding ladder are that the latter folds up and stores in the attic area. This frees up all that space that a germinate ladder or stairwell would take up. Also if you have a folding ladder it is more like a stairwell than a ladder. This feature is nice for when you have to carry items into or out of the attic. Attic ladders normally come with two or three hinged sections that help to accommodate whatever your ceiling height is. They also come in a variety of widths that help accommodate the area the ladder is to be installed.

When choosing the right ladder some suggestions I have are; Get the wide test ladder you can, get one with the lowest pitch. When thinking about the width of the ladder the wider the better. Remember that the ladders main function will be to haul items to be stored in the attic. If the ladder is to narrow it will be harder to get bigger bilker items in and out of the attic. One of the main types of items that are stored in the attic tends to be seasonal decorations. These items can be; Halloween, Easter, and especially Christmas items.

Christmas items tend to be the bigger items especially when you think about the box that an artificial Christmas tree comes in. Even the stand for a real Christmas tree tends to be pretty large. The pitch also makes a difference when taking items in and out of the attic. The steeper the pitch the harder it will be to carry those bulky and heavy items up or down from the attic.

For safety purposes it is also a good idea to get a heavy duty ladder. The items you carry have weight besides how heavy you are. As I am a bigger man my weight doesn’t allow for me to carry to heavy of objects up the ladder if the weight is only for a max of 300 pounds.

There is nothing worse then going up a ladder one minute with a large box on in your hands and the next minute being on your back with a box and part of a ladder on top of you. Safety around the home should always be a concern.
