Wooden Attic Ladder
When purchasing a wooden attic ladder it is important to consider safety, strength and
compatibility. All of the ladders should meet ANSI safety standards. Many of them can hold weight up to 250 lbs.,
some even up to 350 lbs., and that is considered to be a safe, strong ladder. The majority of the ladders are built
to fit an 8' 9" to 10' ceiling height. Some of them are adjustable to be able to fit the appropriate ceiling
height. They can also be adjusted to fit the opening in the ceiling to the attic.
Most of the wooden attic ladders that are available are the folding access ladders. They
are built only for residential use. A positive feature of the folding ladder is the fact that it can be adjusted
when it is open and not adjusted while you are in the attic. This is a major safety feature to consider when
looking.

Another safety feature to consider is the traction provided by the steps. If the steps are
grooved and also have wire rods for reinforcement, they will be easy and safe and give you the confidence of being
sure-footed. An extra feature would be a sturdy hand rail for that needed support. If the ladder has power arms and
adjustable springs, it will be able to handle heavy use while staying steady and smooth.
Some of the wooden attic ladders come fully assembled and only need to be installed. There
are still some on the market that need to be assembled first and then installed. It all depends on how much you
want to do yourself. Pine is used mostly in the production of these wooden ladders, and it is a strong wood. Many
of the ladders have wider treads depending on the type of usage that is needed.
Other good qualities of the wooden attic ladder would include an energy efficiency bundle.
This means the closure in the ceiling is tight and saves on heating and cooling costs. There may also be a
fire-proof door, an insulated door panel and a weather stripping door seal. These are all good things to consider
while looking for the wooden ladder that meets your needs in the best way.
These ladders all look very much the same at first sight, but be sure that when you
purchase one you are getting the right height, the right size for the opening and the quality made safe
product.
